I knew Lee for many years. In 1978 I was his Junior Assistant when he was the lead Sr. Bank Examiner in San Antonio. We traveled to many hill country and border banks. I learned a lot and got a great start in banking with his knowledge, leadership, and mentorship. He often had his golf clubs in the back. He was dating Sue then and who knew they would be married and have beautiful children together. During this time we tracked Sealy HS football when the state championship. I remember going to the game in Austin and Eric Dickerson MVP.
Fast forward to my move to Brenham in 1990 where Paula and were looking for advise on living in Brenham. He and Gary Crocker gave us wise important advice. We moved in town opposed to the country.
We later ended up working together again as we were both part of First State Bank of Texas in 1999.
Lee was always friendly always open to take my calls unannounced visits. More than a boss a long time freind I felt was sincerely happy to talk and catch up.
Very heavy heart and sadness. But great assurance he is with his Lord God.

Lee was "a banker's banker". In our profession, he was respected and admired. Lee exemplified "quality vs quantity"...his years were numbered but his accomplishments were extraordinary. Continue his legacy.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend Lee Gaskamp. He was the epitome of a community man. He and my father had some great times together and I know they are now back joking with each other. I will miss him.

Lee and I served together on the Student Council at Blinn College many years ago. He was kind, funny and one of those people you never forget. I have not seen him since then but I know he grew into an even greater man. My sincere and heartfelt sympathies go out to his family along with healing and comforting prayers. Debby Machemehl McGinn

Lee and I both worked for the Texas Department of Banking and became friends at that time. He had a smile that could and would light up any room. My deepest condolences to the family.
