Obituary

Willie Earl Schaer Jr., 86, of Chappell Hill passed away Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Mr. Schaer was born November 23, 1923 to Willie E. Schaer and Sadie Elizabeth (Reinstein) Schaer in Chappell Hill. On March 15, 1947, he married Bobbie Elizabeth Campbell. He served in the Army’s 102nd Infantry Division during World War II and was awarded numerous medals. Mr. Schaer attended numerous colleges before, during and after his time in the Army including Blinn College, Texas A&M University, Ohio State University and The University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. From 1950 to 1960, he was employed by Humble Refining (now Exxon/Mobil) as a chemical project engineer. He then moved to Centerville where he was a partner at Centerville Lumber Company. Later, he worked at Pacesetters Separation Company from where he retired as a Vice President at age 60. After retirement, he returned to Chappell Hill. There he served as director of Chappell Hill Community Water Department for 17 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elk’s Club in Baytown and Brenham and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Billy Schaer and John Bo Schaer; sister, Bernice Shaver; brothers-in-law, Edward Shaver and Robert Smith; and nephew, John William Smith.

Mr. Schaer is survived by: wife, Bobbie Schaer; daughters, Cynthia Hill of Garland, Susan Prewitt and husband Mike of Baytown; grandchildren, Billy Prewitt and wife Lori, Courtney Elizabeth Prewitt; great grandchildren, Emma and Peyton Prewitt; sister, Lillian Smith of Chappell Hill; sister-in-law, Milly Schaer of Chappell Hill; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 21st from 12 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Masonic Cemetery, Chappell Hill.
