Obituary
Robert Walker, Jr. 55 of Brenham passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 at his daughter’s residence in Burton surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous one year battle with liver cancer.
He was born July 8, 1951 to Robert Earl Walker and Betty Jean Walker in Houston. Robert was a graduate of Ross H. Sterling High School. He served his country eight years in the U.S. Marine Corp. On December 21, 1971, he married Elizabeth Bentke in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Houston. Robert pursued a career in law enforcement and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and later attained the Master Peace Officer Certification from the State of Texas. He worked three years with the Brenham Police Department, 14 years with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and 11 years with Harris County Precinct #4 Constable’s Office. Most of those years, he was assigned to the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, where he worked at Goodson, Sampson and Farney Schools. He enjoyed the children and made many friends with parents, teachers and bus drivers. Some of his extra jobs included 6 years as security officer at Sam Houston Race Park and 7 years as patrol officer in the Mill Ridge subdivision, until his health declined.
He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Astros, taking casino trips to Louisiana and being a couch potato.
Robert was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham and of the Fraternal Order of Police #39.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Ricky Walker, brother Roy Walker, father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Georgia Mae Bentke.
His loving family includes: wife of 35 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Walker of Brenham; mother, Ellene Kinser of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Nick DiGregorio of Brenham, Rachel and LeRoy Blankenburg of Burton; grandchildren, Trey, Gracie and Leyton Blankenburg, Hayden and Sloan DiGregorio; brother, Randy Walker of Houston; sisters, Barbara LaVergne and Maureen Walker both of Houston; sister-in-law, Jan Walker of Houston; nephew, Steve Cannon; niece, Cassie Walker; numerous great nephews and nieces; his four legged girls McKenzie, Trinity, Puddy and Tat.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 29th from 5-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30th at 3 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Kim Little-Brooks and Rev. Lawrence Bade officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Johnson, Steve Erner, Steve Cannon, Capt. Tim Cannon, Sgt. Mark Little, Lt. Donald Steward, Mark Stephanski and Troy Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be all officers of Precinct # 4 Cy Fair I.S.D. contract.
