Obituary

Monty Lane Blacklock passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2024 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple after a brief illness. Monty was born in San Angelo, Texas on April 18, 1973 to Carroll Dean and Johnnie Faye (Wagner) Blacklock.

Monty could build or fix anything. His early work as a mechanic led him to drive a big truck with everything from bridge beams to bull racks behind it. When he moved to Brenham he worked at Appel Dodge for a number of years before obtaining his Building Inspector’s license and eventually starting his own construction company. During his time as a contractor he used his natural abilities and intelligence on many projects. He was probably most proud of one particular project in which he built a large barndominium from a sketch on a napkin. His attention to detail was evident in the custom cabinets, furniture and beautiful wood projects he created. At the end of the day Monty could be found listening to the music of a wide variety of artists while sitting on the back porch. He had a way with animals, especially horses and dogs, and he often shared stories of riding his favorite horse as well as the antics of his border collies and labs. Monty had a way of sharing a story that made you feel like you had been there with him…and he always had a story!

Monty was a loving dad to his daughter Makenna and was extremely proud of her independence and the special gifts that serve her well as she works with individuals with special needs. He had a tremendous influence on the children that his marriage to Mary brought into his life and he never stopped referring to Justin and Jennifer as “his kids”.

Monty married Linda in 2014 and is known for always referring to her as “his bride”. Their connection was evident to everyone who knew them and the years they shared together were full of love and laughter. Monty’s marriage to Linda brought two more “kids” to his life and he was proud to be a part of Melanie and Allison’s life.

Monty was extremely intelligent and patient. He had a quick wit and sense of humor that brought smiles to the faces of many and was always willing to lend a helping hand while expecting nothing in return. Some of his fondest memories were of the times he spent in Ruidoso, New Mexico where the Blacklock family had a second home.

Monty is survived by his wife, Linda Fischer Schulte Blacklock, his daughter Makenna “Sage” Blacklock and his mother, Johnnie Faye Blacklock as well as his “kids” Justin (Melissa) Bilski, Jennifer Johnson, Melanie Schulte and Allison (Ryan) Phillips. He is also survived by his grandchildren Layne Bilski and Cole Stewart as well as Wesley and Darcie Phillips who lovingly referred to him as “Pop”; his sisters and brothers-in-law Tracee and John Cahak and Leslie and M.R. Deans; nieces Megan (Josh) Frasier, Miranda (Marcus) Robles, Brenna (Zachary Kosut) Miller, Morgan and Emily Fischer, and great-nieces and nephews Hudson, Harlyn and Hayes Frasier, Maverick and Jolie Robles, and Paisley Eckermann. Mother-in-law Virginia Fischer; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Darrell (Andrea) Fischer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll Blacklock earlier this year.

A celebration of Monty’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Joshua School (https://www.joshuaschool.org/donate) or the Ruidoso, New Mexico Fire Department (313 Cree Meadows, Ruidoso, NM 88345)
