Marvin Hughes

Marvin Hughes, Sr. age 99, passed away Tuesday., December. 4, 2007 at his residence in Brenham, TX.

Mr. Hughes was born Dec. 10, 1907 in Palestine, TX to Robert and Fannie Ramsey Hughes. On Nov. 8, 1965 he married Myrtia Mae VanDyke in Lufkin, TX. He was in the grocery business in Pasadena for 32 years as owner of Hughes Grocery and MaeMax Grocery. In 1965 he retired and moved to Brenham. He was a Sunday school superintendent and choir director. Mr. Hughes was a member of First Assembly of God/Cornerstone for 42 years. He was also a second degree Mason and loved to travel.

Survivors include: wife Myrtia Hughes; children Marvin Hughes, Jr.; Juanita Erwin all of Brenham, Billy Joe Long and Myrtle of Gatesville; son-in-law George Morse of Pasadena; grandchildren, Teresa and Jimmy Duff, Trey Hughes, David and Doreen Hughes, Gary and Susie Erwin, Deborah and George Bonham, Billy Joe II and Tanya Long, Gregory Ryan Long, Randy and Anna Blythe, Donna Gay and Larry Henson, Robert and Dorinda Blythe; nineteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Louella Wise, Marcella and James Harris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Marilyn Gay Morse, 1 brother, 4 sisters.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., December 6, 2007 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Services will be at 10 a.m., December 7, 2007 in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Rev. Floyd Key officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Blythe, Randy Blythe, David Hughes, Trey Hughes, Bill Long, Greg Long and Jason Erwin.
