Karla was born on March 17, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Karl and Olivia Cooper. She graduated from Klein High School in 1970. She married Doug Collins on May 27, 1972 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Karla was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was the best at multi-tasking and being able to handle running the family businesses and raising her daughter. After raising her daughter Karla went back to work in the public. She was the church secretary and administrative assistant at Brenham Presbyterian Church for 22 years before retiring at the end of 2020.

Karla was a member of Brenham’s First Baptist Church. She participated in the worship choir and served on the Women’s Ministry Committee. Doug and her were also founding members of Cowboy Church of Brenham which Karla served as the financial secretary for 7 years. Karla always had a caring and giving heart. She would visit church members in the hospital, lead bible study classes, hosted women’s retreats, and would pitch in wherever needed. Karla was also a member of the Administrative Professional Association of Presbyterian Church serving on the Southwest Region executive board as secretary and president.

Karla loved life, if it was a marathon shopping trip with Shawn, day tripping in the hill country with friends, playing basketball in high school at Klein, yes, she was only 5’2”, a day of brush clearing that had her nephew saying there is nothing left to cut down.
