Obituary
William “Bill” Carroll Raymer, age 97, of Brenham, passed away Sunday, July 16th, 2023, in Houston, TX. Bill was born in Royse City, TX, on October 31st, 1925, to Clarence and Reola Raymer. He was a devoted Christian and enjoyed attending worship services with his family.
Bill graduated from high school in Detroit, MI, and attended Southern Methodist University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. During that time, he was set up on a blind date where he met the love of his life, Margaret Marie Nerger. They were married on February 25th, 1950, and lived in Corpus Christi where Bill was employed as a petroleum geologist for Union Oil of California. In May of 1954, the Raymers made their home in Houston and later, Sugar Land. Margaret passed away in December of 2013, and Bill relocated to Brenham in 2019 to be closer to family.
Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a thoughtful friend and enjoyed all the quality time he could get with those he loved. He was a fan of many sports, but enjoyed baseball and softball the most. In 1966 he coached the Westbury American Little League team, including his son, to the Little League World Series Championship. Bill was his family’s biggest fan, attending as many sporting events, award ceremonies and graduations as he could. He was the best storyteller and would recall experiences from his life as if they happened yesterday. Bill never met a stranger and always kept you entertained.
Bill is survived by daughter, Linda Raymer Koehn and husband Travis, of Bellville, TX; and son, William D. Raymer and wife Janet, of Edmond, OK. “Grandpa Bop Bop” leaves behind seven grandchildren: Adam Koehn and wife Christina, Lauren Koehn, Brent Koehn, Erin Nutting and husband Bradley, Shannon Raymer Whitefield and husband Joshua, William “Trey” Raymer and wife Virginia, and Matthew Raymer and wife Jennifer; and ten great-grandchildren: Lillian Koehn, Catherine Koehn, Riley Snider, Henry Snider, Gabrielle Whitefield, Jace Whitefield, Avery Raymer, Will Raymer, Berkeley Raymer, and Marleigh Raymer. Bill is now reunited in Heaven with his wife Margaret “Mimi” Raymer, whom he has loved for over 73 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023, at Brenham Memorial Chapel (2300 Stringer St. Brenham, TX 77833). Bill will be laid to rest in Giddings, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, at www.support.kidney.org, or to the charity of your choice.
