Obituary
Sharon Mae Wilder, PhD, age 74, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in Brenham, Texas. Sharon was born on November 29, 1949, in Houston, Texas to the late Hugh and Rita Wilder. She graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1968. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Houston and her PhD from Texas A&M University. Sharon married Phillip Dan Switzer in 1983, in Houston, Texas. Together they established their home in Hockley, Texas before moving to Brenham in 2003.
Sharon enjoyed spending time with family, reading, gardening, and traveling with her husband. She also loved photographing nature, especially her animals, butterflies, and flowers. She was a lifelong learner and educator with a talent for inspiring and encouraging others. Her happy place was at the beach enjoying sunrises, putting together puzzles, and collecting seashells.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Phillip Switzer; siblings Cynthia Sausley, Kathy & Ron Michalak, Tom & Venus Wilder, Debbie Husband, Jim & Ann Wilder, Pat & N.A. Weiman and Greg & Laura Wilder. Her memory will live on through her nephews and nieces; Mark & Emily Sausley, Jeff & Cam Michalak, Kim & Chris Mead, Travis & Taryn Husband, Deborah & Scott Ballard, Stewart & Kristen Husband, Kari & Hank Reilly, William & Lesley Wilder, Richard & Kelci Wilder, Michael Wilder, Tim & Emily Weiman, Walter Wilder, Mary & Jon Johnstone, Hayley Wilder and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
A wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a teacher, a person who loved life. Sharon spread kindness and positivity to every life she touched through her warm smile and generosity of spirit. She will be remembered fondly and missed greatly by all those that knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham, Texas 77833.
