Obituary

Ruth Roselin (Weiss) Stern, age 88 of Brenham, departed this life and went to be with her heavenly Father Thursday, March 23, 2006 while in Bluebonnet Care Center.

She was born May 13, 1917 in the Salem Community to Charles H. and Johanna (Sprain) Weiss. Ruth was baptized in Salem Lutheran Church of Salem on July 1, 1917 by Rev. J. Mgebroff and confirmed in the same church on March 20,1932 by Rev. William Utesch. She received her education in the Pleasant Hill School and was active in 4-H.

On October 9, 1938, she was married to Erwin W. Stern at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. A. B. Weiss. Ruth and Erwin began their life together farming in the Phillipsburg Community. After the birth of two sons, they moved to the Wonder Hill Community near Brenham. There they ranched and farmed until Erwin’s death in 1974. After a few years, Ruth moved to Brenham, where she became active in church activities and worked at Alamo Dress Shop, Arp’s Jewelers, and Ellison’s Flower Shop. She loved her plants and flowers and won many blue ribbons with them at the Washington County Fair.

Ruth was a former member of Salem and Phillipsburg Lutheran Churchs, where she taught Sunday School. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member and officer of the Women of the Church and an Adult Choir member until the age of 80.

Her hobbies were tending her yard and many plants, playing cards, dancing, oil painting and listening to music. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ruth enjoyed visiting the shut-ins and elderly and helping on many church committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 36 years Erwin on September 11, 1974, son James Erwin Stern and brothers Louis Walter Weiss and Luther Weiss.

Ruth’s loving family includes: son and daughter-in-law, David O. and Arlene Stern of Tomball; daughter-in-law, Alice Stern of Brenham; grandchildren, Allan and Zoraya Stern of Springfield, Virginia, Brian Stern of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Carrie and Paul Aschenbeck of Brenham, Michael and Kathy Stern of Edgewood, Texas and Stacy and Josh Everett of Tomball; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan and Maia Stern of Springfield, Virginia, Evan and Eric Aschenbeck of Brenham, Justin, Kasey and Amber Stern of Edgewood, Texas and Mason and Emily Everett of Tomball. Also surviving are: sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Weiss of Austin, Madeline and John Blasienz of Bryan, Jo and Leonard Addicks of Austin; brother and sisters-in-law, Clemence and Doris Mae Weiss and Verbie Weiss all of Brenham, Inez Weiss of Rockdale; brother-in-law, Fred Stern of San Marcos; numerous nieces, nephews, along with many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ray Weiss, Greg Weiss, Gary Weiss, Jeff Addicks, David Blasienz, and Bob Stern. Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Stern, Brian Stern, Michael Stern, Josh Everett and Paul Aschenbeck.
