Obituary

Raymond “R.P.” Wagner, Jr. passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009.

He was born August 12, 1929 in Shelby, Texas to Raymond Paul and Hilda (Mayer) Wagner. He was baptized March 15, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Shelby, where he remained a life long member. On April 19, 1953, he married Willie Mae Boeker at Frieden’s United Church of Christ, Gay Hill, Texas.

R.P. was a farmer and rancher and employed at Giddings Livestock Auction.

He enjoyed rodeos, his cattle, his truck, riding his longhorn in Round Top’s Fourth of July parade, tractor pulls and hog hunting.

R.P.’s memberships and interests included: life member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, volunteer of Burton Cotton Gin Festival, volunteer for many years Washington County Fair Association, Shelby Fire Department, Washington County Wildlife Association, American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

He was preceded in death by parents, daughter Donna Jean Wagner, son Lucky Wagner, sons-in-law David Roesler and L.C. Bauerkemper, sisters Hazel Horstmann, Gladys Oevermann and brother Herbert Wagner.

His loving family includes: wife, Willie Mae Wagner; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Roesler, Linda and Rudy Tiemann, Kelly Bauerkemper; former daughter-in-law, Kathy Wagner; grandchildren, Curt Roesler, Brett Roesler, Amy Roesler and special friend Adam Stubbs, Christopher Tiemann and fiancé Amy Schwarze, Valerie and Ryan Ross, Cody Wagner and special friend RaChelle Etzel, Cacie Wagner, Stacie Brown, Mandi and Shane Amos ; great-grandchildren, Hailey Ross, Kylie Amos; sister and brothers-in-law, Grace and Charles Crawford, Wilbert Horstmann; special brother-in-law, Edwin Oevermann; nieces, nephews; “favorite” niece Emillie Oevermann Riley and many friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 17th from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 18th at 2 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelby with Rev. Linda Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Royce Bartels, Wilson Wendler, Hershel Perry, Jr., T.P. Rotello, Wilton “Red” Schoenst, Doug Pierce, Greg Schomburg, Bill Thane, Michael Oevermann and Carolyn Bruening.

Because of his giving nature, he will live on through his donation to Life Gift.
