Peggye E. Baldwin

Peggye Baldwin, age 81, passed away Friday April 18, 2025 at her Brenham home.


Peggye was born June 28, 1943 to parents Thomas Julian and Billy Margaret (Melton) Newman in McMinnville, TN, where her father was serving in the US Army. Upon discharge, the family moved to Abilene. Here her father worked in the cotton gin and mother worked at home. After Peggye completed her primary education and high school graduation, she received her bachelor’s degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1965. There she was a member of ALPHA PSI OMEGA. Peggye then moved to San Antonio, where she worked as a junior high school art teacher.


In San Antonio, she soon met Gary Baldwin. They were married April 17, 1976. The couple moved to Houston in 1992, when Gary’s job with Mrs. Baird’s Bread transferred him. Peggye began work at Walmart managing the fabrics and crafts department. Upon retirement, the couple moved Brenham. She enjoyed sewing, reading, yardwork and tending her flower garden. She especially loved raising sunflowers.


Peggye will be remembered for being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.


She was preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Billy E. Newman and wife Marie, Wayne Newman; brother-in-law, Bill Bowman.


Peggye is survived by: husband Gary Baldwin; son Nathan Baldwin; daughter Dorothy Shisler and husband John; grandchildren Hope Bellew and husband Aaron, Chance Jordan and wife Bailey, and Elizabeth Baldwin; great-grandchildren Andromeda “Andi” Hinton and Danica Jordan; sister Betty Bowman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roland and Sonia Baldwin; sister-in-law Hoa Newman; nieces and nephews Mike Mallet, Jennifer Mallet, Deppye May and husband Paul, Margaret Hunter, Neal Newman, Beverly Watson, Carl and Kristen Baldwin, Bryan Baldwin, Nicole Marines; numerous great nieces and nephews; also are special friends: the Vasquez family, Diane Winter, Edward Swift, Stanley Zareff, and Ray Meech.


Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 2pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel with Cary Todd officiating.
