We are saddened by Mark’s passing. As a neighbor, he was cheerful and kind. We watched him play with Kim and snuggle baby Devin. We followed his career and the family’s moves through Christmas cards. We send fond wishes and sympathy to Debbie, Kim and Devin.

To the Groves family, to Devon and Cassandra, and to your extended family, our hearts are saddened with you and our prayers covering you! We honor Mark and his impact beyond his community and the Kingdom work he's done for God. Through you, his memory and his charitable sacrifice will live on. I'm so sad to hear about Mark's passing. He blessed my life in so many ways. He taught me how to pray and how to ask the big questions and dwell in the mystery. Mark asked me the question that changed the trajectory of my life--"Have you ever thought about being a pastor?" For the many years of sharing my call story, Mark has always been a part of it. I'm giving thanks for his life and the part of the journey we shared. I'm holding your family in prayer and all those who loved him and were loved by him. May God hold you in love.

The impact Mark had on me as a young member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon cannot be overstated. He was such a big part of my high school years and my faith journey. He was so loved, and I thought of him often over the years. I know he struggled with some things, but he was the living embodiment of love and acceptance. He will forever be a part of my life and those he touched. Condolences and love to your entire family. Please know his memory and legacy lives on.

Debbie and family, I’m so sorry for the loss of Pastor Mark. I miss him already, as I’m sure you all do, too. May the peace of the Lord be with you during this difficult time.

Very sad to hear this news. My prayers for His Family and Friends. Wonderful Pastor! Great Guy! We can take comfort as Christians that He is in Perfect Joy! Holy Presence of GOD who He Loves so much! Sadly, this is another reminder of how brief we are here on this Earth. We r definitely not promised tomorrow. Thank GOD we Christians have an Eternity to look forward to. All because of JESUS CHRIST! We will never know why Great People like Pastor are called Home early in age. But we don’t have to know. GOD will take care of us in Heaven Forever! If we live to 5 or 105 it’s still only a second compared to Eternity. Please pray for comfort for His Family.

I’m so shocked and heartbroken over the sudden death of Mark. Debbie and Kim and Devin, I’m so sorry about the loss of your husband, your dad and your children’s grandfather. Mark was the last of the four brothers to pass. We saw him and spoke with him and had dinner with him for Terry’s visitation. He visited with everybody and offered encouragement. Since Mark was the last of the Groves brothers, he really watched out for his nieces and nephews that were left fatherless. I’m sure this is a heartbreak for his parish too. He did so much for family, friends and his parish .He had so much more. I’m sure that he wanted to do. He died way too young. We will all miss him greatly. “ only the good die Young.”

We are relatively new members of Christ Lutheran Church and also being from Chicago, we instantly felt a genuine connection with Pastor Mark. It's still hard processing his passing when we had a very, very nice three-hour home visit just a little over a week ago.

Peace and prayers to Debbie, his children, grandchildren and all of Pastor Mark's family and friends.

Pastor Mark, as you know being "North-Siders" ourselves, we'll still be rooting for the Cubs as we know you are!

Thank you, God, for Mark Groves. I am a vastly better person--more joy-filled, more hope-filled, more useful--than I was before Laverna Jacob invited me to Christ Lutheran. Pastor Mark led me to love God, love People and serve the World. Debbie and Pastor Mark, together, were a lesson in love. I will be forever grateful.

Debbie and family - We are so sorry to hear about Mark’s passing. This is so hard to process. He was such a great influence for Tom, myself, Kayla and Colton and was the reason we all went to church almost every Sunday when he was our Pastor at New Life. We are so sorry for your loss.

As many of us, I am still in shock over the loss of Pastor Mark. He was a very special man and great gift as a Pastor to our church. We spoke on Friday and I live by the church, so I keep looking out the window, in disbelief that he is gone. My prayers continue daily for Debbie and the rest of his family over the unexpected and sudden loss of their beloved husband/father/grandfather as they process their grief. I know their faith is strong and they understand he is at peace in Heaven. I hope they find comfort in knowing he will always be the Angel watching over them.

We are so sad that he is gone. We will all miss him very much.

Pastor Mark was wonderful with my husband’s mother Magdalene Knuppel during her hospitalization, surgery and after her stroke. Saturday he spent time with us and prayed with us because Magdalene’s death was imminent. We talked a lot and he shared his excitement about his children and grandchildren and potential travels. Sunday we texted making arrangements for Magdalene’s funeral. We were devastated to learn of his passing. May peace and understanding pass onto his family. We will keep you in our prayers.
