Obituary

Mildred Lacina Mahlmann, of Brenham, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 103 years of age.

She was born October 9, 1909 in the Birch Community of Burleson County, Texas, the second of six children born to Vincent and Mary (Wiebusch) Lacina. She attended Blinn College in 1927-1928 and taught in rural schools of Burleson County prior to her marriage. On April 9, 1937, she married Walter Mahlmann in Caldwell. She participated with her husband in several businesses, including lumber yards in Deanville and Caldwell and Superette Grocery in Brenham, as well as ranching on their properties in Burleson County.

Mrs. Mahlmann was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed the St. Mary’s Senior Citizens group, playing cards and dominos especially 42, vegetable gardening and is fondly remembered by her family for her kolaches and coffee cakes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter Mahlmann (May 6, 1988), son Donald Mahlmann (August 25, 2010), grandson Christopher Mahlmann, great-grandson Conner Bryce Mahlmann, sisters Irma O’Shea and Helen McGarraugh, brothers Herbert Lacina and L.J. Lacina.

Survivors includes: sons and daughters-in-law, Olan and Kay Mahlmann of Kerrville, Dennis and Rosemary Mahlmann of Brenham, Margie Mahlmann of Bellville; grandchildren, Steven and Lori Mahlmann of San Antonio, Deborah and Art Ramirez of San Antonio, Raelynn and Mike Stolowski of St. Hedwig, Heath and Jennifer Mahlmann of Bellville, Matthew and Whitney Mahlmann of Bellville, Michael and Jackie Mahlmann of Doha, Qatar, David Mahlmann of College Station, Andrew Mahlmann of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Louise “Squeakie” Lacina of Brenham. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8th from 5:30 until rosary is recited at 7:00 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred Mahlmann will be held Tuesday, April 9th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ernesto Elizondo as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.
