Obituary

J. Michael “Mike” Baker age 60 of Brenham passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Friday, December 6, 2013 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. The Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 7, 2013 in First United Methodist Church, 408 N. Baylor Street in Brenham, Texas.

Mike was born May 25,1953 in Wellington, Kansas to John and Mary Baker, and relocated shortly after to Wichita Falls, Kansas and then to Valley Center, Kansas. In 1967, he relocated with his family to Houston, Texas, where he was a student at Spring Woods High School and a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church, where he and his wife Carolyn later married. He was an honor student and graduate of Texas A & M. He worked for numerous oil tool companies ending his career with his position at MIC Group in Brenham as part of the senior management team.

Throughout his life he was a loving family man, “Papa” and friend to many. He was active in the body of Christ with the Wesley group at A & M United Methodist Church, where he and his wife met. They continued at Airline UMC and Atascocita UMC where he served in many capacities, especially with the youth, serving as site coordinator with UMAMRY. After relocating to Brenham, he and his wife joined First United Methodist Church Brenham where he was part of the choir, and this year the chorale. He served on the Chamber of Commerce in Brenham for the past 4 years.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Carolyn of almost 40 years, parents; John and Mary; 3-daughters; Rebecca and husband Robert; Sarah; Jessica and husband Mike; 6-grandchildren; Jacob, Aaron, Alexandria, Abbigail, Victoria, and Cathrynn, brother; Timothy, brother-in-law; Herb, sister-in-law; Carrie, and extended family in Erie, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his sister Laurie and his beloved dog Shadow.

Mike was the ultimate son, husband, father, uncle, nephew, Papa and friend. The outpouring of sympathy by his many loved ones and friends show that his loss is shared by all. He is already sorely missed.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
