Obituary

Mary Frances Kuykendall, 96, of Brenham, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025.

Mary Frances was born on November 6, 1928 in Garza County, Texas, the daughter of Albert Floyd and Bertha (Munselle) Evrage. In 1946, she graduated as valedictorian from Southland High School near Slaton, Texas, and married Jack Kuykendall on February 1, 1947 in Nocona, Texas. She was a homemaker, but also worked alongside her husband to run Jack's Egg Farm in Slaton, and other business endeavors. Later in life, she worked as City Registrar for the city of Slaton, where she retired. After retirement, the couple moved to Brenham, Texas to be closer to their children. Mary Frances built her life on a strong foundation of faith in God. Because of that faith, she was able to live with joy and gratitude. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham. She loved spending time with family and friends, reading, sewing, and crocheting.

Mary Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Lolete Bloxom and Merle Beth Headrick, her brother Jerry Don Evrage, her husband Jack Kuykendall, and her son Dwight Kuykendall. She is survived by daughter Cheryl Hargrave and husband Ken of Brenham, daughter Carolyn Petzolt and husband Monroe of Brenham, son Leland Kuykendall and wife Katie of Wylie, Texas, son Mark Kuykendall and wife Diane of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Debbie Kuykendall of Brenham. Also surviving Mary Frances are her 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will take place at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham with family at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses and staff at High Hope Care Center, Acara Hospice, and Golden Years Homecare Specialists, along with Teresa Rodriguez and Sherry Murphy, for the compassionate care that was shown to Mary Frances and her family.
