Obituary
Marilyn Routt Thomason, 83, of Chappell Hill, Texas, was called home on March 26, 2025.
Born on March 1, 1942, Marilyn lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph E. Routt, of Chappell Hill and her parents, Jim and Marilyn Thomason of Brenham, and one sister Janeal Brandt, of Houston but leaves behind a cherished legacy in those who survive her.
She is lovingly remembered by her three surviving sisters, Rosanna Sena of Ventura, California, Major (Retired) Bevan King of San Antonio, Texas, and Meg Janner of Brenham, Texas. Her children, Leanne Whitaker of Victoria, Texas, and Jim and Carol Locke of Chappell Hill, Texas, were her pride and joy. She was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and followed dearly. Some of her most treasured memories were spent with them on ski trips to Colorado, or just time on the ranch in Chappell Hill, sharing laughter and adventure across generations.
Marilyn was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and a licensed Certified Public Accountant. Over her accomplished career, she worked in various positions, including county government, and ultimately retiring in 2007 as the Chief Financial Officer for the Victoria Independent School District.
A devoted member of the Global Methodist Church in Chappell Hill, Marilyn found comfort in worshiping in the very pew where she sat as a young girl during Vacation Bible School with her grandparents. Her faith was her foundation, and she held firm to God’s promise of a future without suffering.
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." — Revelation 21:4
Though her absence leaves a void in our hearts, we find peace in knowing that our sorrow is only temporary, as we will one day be reunited in God’s eternal presence.
There will be a private celebration of Marilyn’s life to be held at a later date. The family deeply appreciates your prayers and support during this time.
