Obituary

Margie Louise Germany, age 97, of Brenham and the widow of Charles Joe Germany passed away on September 10, 2024 at Brenham Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born to John Alvin Box and Velma Lou Burney on April 3, 1927 in Winona, MS. Unlike many women of her generation, she was able to obtain a bachelor’s degree with a major in Education/Home Economics. She worked her entire life as a public school educator in elementary, middle, and high school in Batesville, MS, Coffeeville, MS, and Houston, TX. She ended her career at Jesse Jones High School in Houston ISD.

She was active in her church, Chappell Hill Baptist, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and leading the “keenagers” group in local activities. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was also a volunteer for Barbara Bush’s Literacy Foundation as an Instructional Designer at the Bush Library in College Station, TX. At home, she enjoyed reading, caring for her plants, and cooking. She was also an avid traveler visiting so many places in the United States and the world. And nothing could contain her joy when the Houston Astros won the World Series!

She is survived by her daughter Janet Louise Lake of Austin, TX, son Charles Joe Germany, Jr. and wife Evie from Sugar Land, TX, sister Mary Elizabeth “Boots” Jordan, granddaughter, Janet Florisel Shandra and husband John Shandra, Jr. and granddaughter, Joy Elisabet Germany; nieces Gina Wirtz, Angela Queen, and Michele Bernhardt.

A visitation with family will be held Friday, September 13th from 4pm until 7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

A service for Margie will be held Saturday, September 14th at 11am at the First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill Texas located at 7675 FM 2447, Chappell Hill, Texas 77426.
