Obituary

Lucile Freitag, 94, of Kenney died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Care Center of Brenham.

Lucile was born June 24, 1917 in Brenham to Martin H. and Ella (Rippenhagen) Schwartz. She was baptized and confirmed at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. On February 18, 1944 she was united in marriage with Elmer Freitag at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1996.

Lucile was a graduate of both Brenham High School and Blinn College. She was a bookkeeper in Brenham prior to working with Elmer (always known to her as “Friday”) operating Freitags General Merchandise in Kenney for 42 years and working along side of him in the Kenney Post Office for 37 of those years. Lucile was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church all her adult life and was a member of Ladies Aid Circle.

Cooking and baking for her family and friends, and sewing for her daughter were her great joys. She also loved being out of doors where one would find her hard at work mowing, cutting limbs or burning brush.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 52 years and brother Howard Schwartz.

Survivors include daughter Sharon Freitag; sister Doris Schwartz; nephews and nieces Danny Dickschat, Garner and Coece Menn, Peggy Menn, Bobby and Juanita Brewton and Virginia French; and other relatives and friends including caring neighbors Kathy Pantel and William Knight, and faithful friend Lawrence Bade.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 5-7p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Phil Fenton officiating. A brief reception will be held immediately after the service in St. Paul’s Parlor followed by burial at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville.

Pallbearers will be William Knight, Emmitt Knuppel, James Wyatt, Robert Rippenhagen, Jr., Fred Mantey and Floyd Mikeska.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Christian Day School or St. Paul’s Radio Ministry, 305 West Third St., Brenham, TX 77833.
