Obituary

Lewis Kutschke, beloved husband, father and Presbyterian, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023 in Brenham, Texas. He was born in Kingsville, Texas on October 10, 1937 to his loving parents, Charles Traugott Kutschke and Ora Robbins Kutschke. He was brought up in a loving Christian home and baptized at an early age.

He enjoyed small town life in the country in Riviera, Texas along with his two older sisters and brother. Lewis graduated from Kingsville High School in May 1954, and briefly attended what was then Texas A&I University. He then began a long and successful career in home building, construction, and ranching as well as officiating high school football for a number of years.

Retiring from Centex Materials, Austin Texas, he purchased a ranch, West Fork Cattle Country, in Luling, Texas where he successfully pursued a lifelong dream of cattle ranching.

Lewis had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed his free time pursuing his interests, including hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He found great pleasure in the beauty of nature and the wildflower season on his ranch which was truly spectacular! He loved watching sports of all kind and especially the Texas Longhorns.

Lewis married Nancy Holloway in May of 2003 and subsequently sold his ranch to move to Alice, Texas. There he built a lovely new home, found an additional new group of hunting and golfing friends, purchased land and established a subdivision. He became involved in a number of community service activities and was elected a deacon in First Presbyterian Church where he lent his beautiful singing voice to the choir.

Lewis and Nancy moved to Brenham 10 years ago to be closer to family members. Lewis was a man known for his honesty, integrity, strong work ethic and love of family.

Lewis is predeceased by his parents, two sisters and a daughter, Brenda. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Melinda Kutschke of Fayette County, and Angela C. Kutschke Wagner and husband Ken, of Houston. His sole surviving sibling is C.T. Kutschke and wife, Mary Ann of Holly Lake, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include Nathaniel Wagner, Jason Wagner (wife, Anushri), Thaddeus Wagner, Hannah Wagner Smale (husband, Cameron) Vincent Musgrove, Travis Musgrove, Moriah Musgrove; two precious great grandchildren, Rain Woods and Sedaka Wagner; a number of cousins; special nieces and nephew; and dear friends.
