Obituary

Leo Dennis Mueller, 77, of Latium passed away October 28, 2006 after a long courageous battle with emphysema.

Leo was born November 15, 1928 in Latium, Texas, the son of Kenney and Emily Ackermann Mueller. He was baptized December 16, 1928 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Latium by Reverend Joseph Hanak. He received first Holy Communion in the same church December 9, 1939 by Reverend Charles Weiserowski and was confirmed by Bishop Christopher Byrne at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham on October 24, 1940.

He married Valeria Vierus October 8, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Monsignor Charles Weiserowski.

Leo attended County Line School in Latium, Greenvine School and graduated from Burton High School. He served the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He attended Greer Technical College in Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Mustang Tractor in Houston for over 41 years in various capacities. Leo was a mechanic, field engineer and technical manager. He retired December 1993 and moved to his farm in Latium.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Latium, Latium Wesley Greenvine Fire Department and Harmonie Hall in Shelby.

Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Valeria Mueller; daughter, Sharon Simpson and husband Clint of Houston; son, Douglas Mueller and wife Julie of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Neil Dennis Mueller of San Antonio, Brice and Trent Simpson of Houston, and Grant and Emily Mueller of Sugar Land; brother and sister-in-law, Kenney and Lynette Mueller of Latium; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Natalie and Fred Imhoff of Stroud, Oklahoma, Loretta and Ron Haren of Houston, Ruby and Jerry Walter of La Grange, Clarice and Lenny Konieczny of Latium, Kris and Daniel Vierus of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; godchildren, Cindy West of Brazoria, Mary Ann Williams of Oklahoma City, and Stephanie Engelking of Plano; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Mueller December 31, 1986, parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Mary Borowicz Vierus, brother Daniel “Polly” Mueller, brothers-in-law John Edward Vierus and David Vierus, special friend Kermit Rudloff.

Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until rosary begins at 7:30 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral mass will be offered Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Latuim with Reverend David Ivey and Reverend Bennie Mazurkiewicz as con-celebrants. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Darrell Mueller, Donald Mueller, Charles Imhoff, David Imhoff, Brian Haren and Devin Vierus. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaylon Hale, Wilfred Przyborski, Lloyd Brandt and his grandchildren.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Richard Pohil and the Brenham Hospice nurses who took wonderful care of him. Also thanks goes to his special nurse Brenda McCarty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Brenham Hospice, 302 E. Blue Bell Road, Brenham, Texas 77833; Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery Fund: or a charity of choice.

Leo was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose love, strength and unselfishness will be missed.
