Obituary

Laverne Renn Lehrmann, daughter of the late J.F. and Cordelia Bosse Renn, was born on July 25, 1927 in the Washington community, Washington County, Texas. She died on November 4, 2013, having attained the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 10 days. Visitation with the Lehrmann family will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 6 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Friedens United Church of Christ, Washington with Pastor Greg Felder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Laverne received the Sacrament of Baptism on August 21, 1927 at Friedens United Church of Christ, Washington. She was instructed in the doctrine of the Christian faith at Friedens and affirmed her faith in Jesus Christ in the Rite of Confirmation on November 9, 1941. Laverne received her education in the public schools at Washington, Navasota High School and Blinn College. She taught school in Washington and Chappell Hill. She also worked in the Washington County Tax Assessor–Collector office for several years.

Laverne Renn married LeeRoy Lehrmann on August 11, 1946 at Friedens with Rev. Paul Piepenbrok officiating. This marriage was blessed with three children, sons Royce and Hollis and a daughter, Tanya who preceded her mother in death in infancy. Following their marriage, LeeRoy and Laverne worked in the cotton gin business in Prairie Hill and Washington. In 1965, they became the owners of Brenham Heating and Air Conditioning.

A lifelong member of Friedens, Laverne served faithfully and diligently. She loved her Lord and attended church every Sunday unless ill or out of town. She and LeeRoy loved working with the youth of Friedens Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, on church committees, church council, member of Women’s Fellowship serving as president for many years, UCC Women, and served on the Brazos Association of Churches. A member of Washington Sons of Herman Lodge #178, Washington County Cattle Women, Washington County A&M Mothers Club, H.O.S.T.S. mentoring program, Texas Extension Education Association, patterned disabled children, and hospital volunteer, Laverne lived a life of service to others.

Laverne was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren and loved to attend every event they were a part of. An amazing cook, she was happiest with her family beside her preparing one of her special meals, always including a homemade dessert.

An avid gamer, Laverne bowled for over 40 years, competing on ladies’ teams well into her 70s and winning many bowling tournament championships. She enjoyed eating out and playing cards with the “Bowling Bunch”, playing klinker with her lady friends, and dominoes with her Kruse friends. She also had a passion for country music, tapping her foot to her beloved “Dujka Brothers” and attending every country music opry in the surrounding area with her friends.

Always loving to travel, she and LeeRoy were able to take many wonderful Carrier trips throughout the world and made many dear and lifelong friends along the way. When she was at home, she enjoyed spending time out at the “Lazy L Ranch”, the family farm in Washington just down the road from the church.

A bit of a perfectionist, Laverne was the ultimate housewife. Keeping a clean and welcoming home, beautiful yard, and personal best appearance were her way of always making others feel special and deserving of her extra efforts. Always supporting her husband and family, she made sure she was home to cook lunch every day, cleaned the family office, ran errands, baked birthday cakes for every employee and filled the office cookie jar with homemade cookies and candy. Managing her household and living in a Christian household emphasizing church, education, morals, honesty and integrity were her highest priorities.

Even in her last days, she was able to make her family and caregivers laugh and smile with her famous rhymes. Caring, funny, nurturing, yet strong and resolute, she was the ultimate Southern Lady.
She used to say, “Keep your fork, the best is yet to come”; we are certain that she now has the best….
