Obituary
Lana Beth Meier died January 10, 2024 at Oak Haven Assisted Living in Industry.
She was born September 23, 1964 at St. Jude Hospital, Brenham to Lilburn and Dolores Hurtig Meier. She was an active member of Welcome Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, served on numerous committees. She especially enjoyed sharing God’s word with young children by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
During her youth, Lana was active in 4-H. She was a 1983 graduate of Brenham High School. Lana graduated from: Blinn College LVN program in 1984, Blinn Junior College in 1988. In 1990 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas School of Nursing in Galveston with high honors.
Lana was employed at Bohne Hospital, Trinity Medical Center (which later became Baylor Scott and White of Brenham), St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center of Bryan and CHI St. Joseph Hospital of Bryan. She primarily worked in maternal and infant units. During her 40 year nursing career, she heard the “borning cry” of hundreds of babies and was proud when she saw their names on school honor rolls. She lovingly cared for numerous children, including her beloved nephew and niece.
Genealogy was a passion of hers. She was a member of the Washington County Genealogical Society and had a vast knowledge of her ancestry.
She was preceded in death by her father Lilburn Ernest Meier.
She is survived by: mother Dolores Hurtig Meier; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Bonnie Meier, Kenan (Ken) and Tracy Meier; niece, Linsey Angus and husband Peter; nephew, Joe Meier; and numerous cousins, co-workers, and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 17th from 8 am until 7 pm with family present from 5-7 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 10 am at Welcome Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sutton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Merz, Koy Brinkmeyer, Reese Hurtig, Peter Angus, Dustin Wendler and Joe Meier. Honorary pallbearers are her close friends: Marilyn Ullrich, Nancy Rosenbaum, Kerri Woltman and Marian Balke.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers at Oak Haven Assisted Living.
