Obituary

Joann Byrge Hall, 76, widow of Pankey Giles Hall, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 following a valiant battle with dementia.

Born December 17, 1935 in Tampa, Florida to William Earl and Mary Othella Byrge, Joann married Pankey – the absolute love of her life – on December 27, 1955. Their life’s journey began when they met in church in Tampa, and continued until his passing on June 10, 2001.

They raised their family in Brenham after moving here in 1962, and Joann followed him on numerous journeys – including time spent in Saudi Arabia – but they always returned home to Brenham.

Surviving loving family includes: her children, Pankey Jr. and Fanny Hall of Bellville, Judson and Linda Hall, Jennifer and Arlie Eckermann all of Brenham; grandchildren, Pankey “Trace” Hall III, Lauren and Kevin Turnbill, Rachael Dobos, Stephanie Dobos, and Katy Hall; great-grandson Connor; brother Earl Byrge, sister Virginia Garrison; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law George and Myra Hall, Letitia and Dale Carpenter, Joanne Hall; nieces and nephews Mike Garrison, Julie Russell, Letitia Hall-Ruiz, Lisa Lacombe, Jess Hall, Robin Glass, Scott Hall, Jennifer Alvarez and Nicki Carpenter.

All who came to know Joann recognized her sweet and giving spirit that came from faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. No matter the trials she faced, that spirit shone through – whether with her family, friends or Dillard’s customers. She greatly loved her children, grandchildren and extended family, and received the most joy when giving to and serving others.

Joann was blessed with wonderful friends in her life, particularly Marcena O’Malley and Barbara Smith. Her family is so grateful to them and others who were there before and during this battle and will fondly remember the kind and understanding staff at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation, especially Mike, Melanie, and Kim – they and numerous co-workers helped tremendously over the past few months. Their recognition and appreciation of Mom’s sweet spirit will always be remembered.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, October 20 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and the funeral service, with Rev. Troy Sikes officiating, will be held Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m., both being held at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be given in her honor to Hospice Brazos Valley or First Baptist Church School.

Funeral services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St. Brenham. 970-836-3611. Condolences may be sent online to www.brenham-memorial-chapel.com
