Janet (Johnson) Weeren

Janet Weeren, age 82, passed away at her home in Burton on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Janet was born November 24, 1941, to parents William and Katheryn Aileen (Mathis) Johnson in Broken Arrow, OK. She was a member of the First Family of the Cherokee Nation.

On January 20, 1967, Janet married Gayle Weeren in Houston. After several years of living in different states and cities, Janet and Gayle made their home in Burton, TX.

Janet spent most of her professional career as a legal secretary. She enjoyed doing crafts at home, especially knitting and crocheting different items for friends and family. Janet made many beautifully handcrafted quilts. She loved baking for her family, specifically fruit kolaches, homemade cheesecakes, cream cheese brownies and was just a great cook overall. Janet also enjoyed doing floral designs when she wasn’t quilting. She was a very proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Janet was preceded in death by: parents, siblings Jimmy Johnson, Kathey Mathews, and Lynn Ray Johnson, daughter-in-law Dorothy Fennen, grandson Joshua David Fennen.

Surviving family includes: husband Gayle Weeren; daughter Leslie Gail Weeren; sons Charles Keith Fennen, III and wife Shirley, DeArmond Jay Fennen, Gary Ray Fennen; granddaughter Erika Rothgeb and husband Jesse; great granddaughter Sophia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family present will be Friday evening, August 16th, from 5-7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 17th, at 11am at Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton with Pastor Darrin Holub officiating.
