James C. Riley, Jr.

James C. Riley, Jr. 89 of Brenham passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in Trinity Medical Center.

Jim was born May 21, 1914 to Emma (Hendrix) Riley and James C. Riley, Sr. in Branch, Arkansas. He was raised in Oklahoma and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He married Dorothy Smith of Centralia, Illinois, in 1938. They were blessed with two sons, James C. Riley III and William Kent Riley. Dorothy passed away in 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1956 Jim married Betty Nixon Smith. They lived in Fort Worth and Houston and moved to Brenham in 1979. Betty passed away in 2000 in Brenham, Texas. Jim had been a member of the Methodist Church since early childhood. Locally, he was a member of Brenham Country Club, Brenham Rotary Club, Director and past Chairman of the Board of Texas National Bank, and a life member of the Washington County Heritage Society.

Jim is survived by his son Kent Riley and wife Barbara of Fort Worth and Rockport; granddaughters Amy Riley Connor of Fort Worth, Sloane Riley of Dallas, Alexa Riley of Denver, Colorado, and Caroline Riley of Austin; great grandsons Finn Connor, John Riley Conner, and West Riley; step-son Mike Smith and wife Junifer of Sugar Land; step-grandson Scott Smith of Pasadena; daughter-in-law Sandra Riley of Dallas; niece George Ann Carter Bahan of Fort Worth; and Linda Rode his personal secretary for over 40 years, along with three other ladies Mindy Huling, Carrie Craig, Stephanie Howton who were dear to care for him since the death of his wife Betty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Dorothy and Betty, son James C. Riley III in 1994, and sister Eulema Brown.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Dr. Wesley Welborn and Rev. Sam Duree officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, the Boys and Girls Club, or your charity of choice.
