Obituary

Ivy G. Smith, 97, of Brenham, passed away Thursday, March 8,2012 at Scott & White Hospital-Brenham.

She was born October 28, 1914 in Carmine, TX to parents Willie and Martha Deiss Gummelt. At an early age they moved to the Greenvine Community in Washington County where she lived her entire life. She attended Mill Creek School and was a member of Greenvine Baptist Church. In 1935 she married Travis L. Smith and moved to his farm/ranch (S Bar Ranch) where she actively participated with him in raising crops, cattle, sheep, and turkeys. They were the parents to two children, William Waldo Smith and Dr. James Norman Smith. Mrs. Smith was an accomplished gardener, excellent cook, and creative seamstress who was very proud of her well-groomed yard and home, where she enjoyed hosting many family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband and both sons, three sisters, Elsie Neumann, Myrtle Schirmer and Sophie Brauner, both brothers Willie Gummelt Jr. and Norries Gummelt, as well as sister-in-law Virginia Gummelt, brothers-in-law Ed Neumann, Gus Schirmer, Weldon Graham, Herbert Brauner, nephews Gary Gummelt and Jimmie Rogers. She is survived by sister Erna Mae Graham, sister-in-law Janie Gummelt, two grandchildren, Greg Smith and wife Leslie and Elizabeth Lehrmann and husband Hollis, three great-grandchildren William Hollis, Victoria and Alexandria Lehrmann, daughter-in-law Pat Smith-Wendler and her husband William Wendler, nieces and nephews Mike Gummelt, Ricky Gummelt, Tammy and Gary Buro, Ella Maud and Reinhardt Kramer, Ivy and Wesley Kettler, Martha Monroe, Edward and Shirley Neumann, Ernest and Linda Neumann, Dwayne and Tammy Brauner, Ernest and Sharon Brauner, Marie and Herman Sebastian, Sandy and Howard Lyness, Glenn and Jolene Geick, Faye and Steve DeSolo, also great nieces and great nephews and other family members including William “Bill” Hill III.

A memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 11 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Rev. Glen Schoeneberg will officiate. Immediately after the service the family will receive friends and guests at the funeral home.

Nieces and nephews are considered as honorary pallbearers for Aunt Ivy.

Memorials may be given to American Kidney Association or your charity of choice.
