Obituary

Herbert Edward Rust, 79, of Burton, TX, died on December 1, 2024. Herbert was born in Brenham, Texas on April 8, 1945 to Della Spreen and Herbert Albert Rust. He was baptized on May 13, 1945 by Rev. A. J. Mohr and confirmed August 23, 1959 by Rev. Albert Holck at Eben Ezer Lutheran of Berlin.

Herbert was a 1963 graduate of Brenham High School. On June 4, 1966, he married Joyce Elaine Landua at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg where he became a lifelong active member. Over the years he served on church council and as a leader of Men in Mission. He served in the National Guard and later joined the Brenham Police Department in 1976, serving the community for 10 years. Beginning as a part-time job during his years with the police department, he started the familiar Rust Roofing business. After 1976, Herbert owned and operated Rust Roofing until retiring in 2022. He employed many young men and taught them the meaning and importance of a strong work ethic. Herbert enjoyed saltwater fishing, hunting in the Hill Country and Rehburg area, and watching any ball game his grandchildren participated in. He knew no stranger, loved a good joke, socialized as a hobby, and loved cooking for his family. Over the past 15 years, he struggled through many medical challenges that altered his lifestyle, but ultimately accepted his final destiny to be with the Lord.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Vicky Rust of Cypress, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bradley Jasinski of Burton, TX; grandchildren, Haley and Abby Rust, and Della and Briley Jasinski; sister Dorothy Hicks of Houston, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Arlin Naegeli of Burton, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elaine Rust; parents, Della and Herbert Rust; parents-in-law, Earl and Minnie Landua; sister and brother-in-law, Aneva and Harold (Slim) Rogas; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Vicki Rust; and brother-in-law Jack Hicks.

Serving as pallbearers are James Naegeli, Steve Naegeli, Nolan Rogas, Bryan Rogas, Brian Hinze, and Kenneth Ladewig. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Foerster, Ronnie Luhn, Ken Baker, Terry Korthauer, Charlie Rauch, and Gary Gaskamp.
