Obituary

On December 1, 2011, Harvey “Dee” McIntyre, III, was called to join our Lord in Heaven. Born in Brenham, Texas on February 22, 1949 to Harvey D. Jr. & Elaine “Mickey” Hoehnen McIntyre, he was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Having inherited his grandfather’s mechanical mind, Dee learned early on the importance of resourcefulness leading him to earn the Life Rank in Boy Scouts and eventually obtain his pilot’s license in his late teens. He played catcher for the 1966 Cub Baseball State Championship team before suffering a knee injury that prevented him from playing further. Dee graduated from Brenham High School in 1967 and attended Blinn Junior College. On November 15, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Rybarski.

Dee was devoted to his family. His greatest accomplishments were his three sons, Harvey IV, Matthew and Pat Dalton, who inherited his love of baseball, going on to play in college, and providing Dee with an excuse every spring weekend to head to a game. The day that Dee became “Grandstands” was the day that Dee’s heart melted. A loving yet strict father, his grandchildren were the light of his life and softened him. They loved their Grandstands immeasurably.

Dee was a man who knew a lot about everything. Whether his sons needed to tile a bathroom or repair a lawnmower, Dee was the first to help. He knew his way around the kitchen, spending days cooking for the family’s Thanksgiving feast, making biscuits and gravy for weekend breakfasts or simply preparing his wife’s morning coffee. Dee was employed at Alexander Oil for over twenty years and developed many dear friends during this time.

Preceding Dee in death were his parents; grandparents Harvey Sr. and Esther McIntyre; Emil and Angeline Hoehnen; and his parents-in-law Stanley and Nancy Rybarski. Cherishing his memory is his loving wife of 42 years, Pat; his son Harvey IV and wife Reagan (Robinson) McIntyre and grandchildren Emma Kate and Cooper; son Matthew and wife Sarah (Bullock) McIntyre and grandson Thomas Harvey; son Pat Dalton McIntyre; brother Michael McIntyre and wife Barbara; sister Marion Johnson and husband Jim; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 5th at Brenham Memorial Chapel from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 6th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Brenham at 10 am with Father Leon Streider of St.Mary’s Seminary of Houston officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike McIntyre, Jess & Terry Luedtke, Bookie Murski, Brian Roper, Ray Rodenbeck, Brad Bentke, Matthew Kenjura, and James Ira “Chuck” Thomas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Alexander Oil Company, the Alexander family, and the Floyd Lucherck family.

In honor of one of Dee’s greatest passions, memorials may be sent to Blinn College Foundation Baseball Program, 902 College Avenue, Brenham, TX 77833 and the UTSA Baseball Program, One UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249-0691.
