Obituary

Glenda “Dolly” Krause, 67 of Brenham, passed away Monday, September 14, 2009 at her home following a spirited fight with cancer.

Dolly was born July 15, 1942 in the Old Washington Community to Dennis and Lula (Meyer) Luetge. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville. Dolly attended Old Washington School through eighth grade and then attended Brenham High School, graduating in 1960. At Brenham High School she was elected varsity cheerleader, freshman and junior class officer, FFA Sweetheart, Friendliest Girl and other honors. On January 25, 1964, she married the love of her life, Gerald Krause, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
After sixteen years of employment as receptionist at the Brenham Clinic, Dolly and Gerald opened Krause’s Paint and Decorating Center. The store quickly became a success, as she was renowned for her expertise in coordinating colors. She had a special touch for color creation and matching.

Dolly was a long time active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School; served on congregational life, stewardship, and evangelism committees; was a member of ladies circle and alter guild; and volunteered for special needs of the church.

Throughout her life, Dolly found great joy in her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She loved shopping with her sister and friends, enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by: parents; grandparents, Henry and Mary Luetge, Ed and Emma Meyer; brother Larry Luetge; and father-in-law, Ervin “Shorty” Krause.

Her loving family includes: husband of forty-five years Gerald Krause; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Jennie Krause of Brenham, Kris and Kacey Krause of Cypress, Koy and Laura Krause of Cypress; grandchildren, Kaylin, Kullen, Kade, Karson and Kole Krause; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Elroy Wellmann of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Glynne Nell Luetge of Hempstead; mother-in-law, Ella Krause of Brenham; step-mother, Erma Luetge of Brenham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tudie and Earl Hathaway of Brenham; step-sister and step-brother-in-law, Karen and Mack Machacek of Austin; aunts and uncles, Helen Meyer of College Station, Jocelyn and Victor Walzel of Baytown, Sadie and Leon Vierus of Brenham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Krause family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Phil Fenton officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews: Dean Luetge, Scott Luetge, Charles Hill, Troy Wellmann, Matt Kwiatkowski, Dennis Luetge, Larry Townsend and Greg Nelson.
