Obituary
Gladys Wunderlich Boecker, 94, passed away at Trinity Care Center on Friday, February 1, 2008.
She was born in the Sandy Hill community of Washington County on July 19, 1913 to Rudolph and Emma Dierking Wunderlich. She was baptized October 5, 1913 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church and moved to the New Wehdem community at the age of three years. She was confirmed in St. James Lutheran Church on April 1, 1928, and on October 29, 1936 married Fred O. Boecker, Sr.
After living in the Brenham area for five years, she and her family moved to the Womack community near Clifton, Texas, and was active in farming and gardening for 57 years.
She was an active member at Zion United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and Share-A-Meal program. She was also a member and officer of the Home Demonstration Club. Her hobbies were gardening, fishing, and playing cards and dominoes. She was also an active member of the local chapter of the Sons of Hermann.
Her parents; husband Fred O. Boecker, Sr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and W.G. Stein, and Pearly and Bennie Boecker; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lenora and Herbert Haevischer; and brother-in-law, Leroy Boecker preceded her in death.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Fred O., Jr. and Betty Boecker of Houston; granddaughter and husband, Julie and Ed Hardin of Houston; grandson and wife, Scott and Virginia Boecker of London, England; great grandchildren, Jonathan Hardin, Jordan Hardin, and Holland Boecker; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanora and Bill Zuehlke of Clifton, TX; sister-in-law Verlin Boecker of Brenham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome. Pastor Lydia Paterson will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Dennis Ashorn, Calvin Boecker, Ronnie Haevischer, Albert Linke, Odell Stein, and Dennis Zuehlke.
Honorary pallbearers are J.C. Anz, Gerald Baker, David Conrad, and Cy Wilton – all long time friends and neighbors of the Womack community.
Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome or donor’s own charity of choice.
