Obituary
Gladys Pearl (Schmitt) Hueske, age 90, of Brenham and the widow of Louis Robert Hueske, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Gazebo Terrace. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 11 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem with Pastors Charles Parnell and Greg Gaskamp officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Gladys was born March 23, 1924 in Brenham to parents Joe and Caroline (Gaskamp) Schmitt. Her baptism was May 11, 1924 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Brenham and confirmation was June 5, 1938 in Zion Lutheran Church, Zionsville. She married Louis Robert Hueske on April 28, 1946 in Zion Lutheran Church. Gladys was active in high school sports while at Burton High School along with being a 1942 honor graduate. Her working career began at Brenham Saddle Shop, Otto Lehrmann, then with Seidel & Schroeder Certified Public Accountants. In 1946 she joined Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem. She taught Sunday school and served as superintendent and helped with vacation bible school, was a member of WELCA, Dorcas Circle, quilting group and senior citizens. She helped her husband on the farm and raked hay. She truly enjoyed sewing, sports, dominoes, cards and was part of K&M card group.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Helen and Delbert Ladewig, Betty and Charles Witte all of Brenham; grandchildren Jason and Tasha Ladewig, Bradley Ladewig, Charlie Witte, Clayton Witte, Caroline and Kris Wood; great-grandsons Jayden Allen Ladewig, Jacob Austin Ladewig; sister Esther Quebe; aunts JoAnn Gaskamp, Tomelane Gaskamp; numerous other relatives and friends who knew her as “Aunt Gladys”.
Gladys is deceased by her parents, husband Louis on March 20, 1986, parents-in-law Walter Sr. and Minnie (Hurtig) Hueske, sister Bernice Reeves, brother-in-law Burney Quebe, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Walter Jr. and Bernita Hueske, Alvin and Edna Hueske, Doris and Willie Noerenberg, Bernadine and Lonnie Dreyer.
Pallbearers will be Karl Quebe, Doyle Reeves, Kenneth Dreyer, Billie “Bo” Noerenberg, Jimmie Dreyer, Gary Noerenberg, David Dreyer and Dean Winkelmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
