Obituary

Gladys Joyce Loesch Rosenbaum passed away Monday, August 5, 2013. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 W. Third Street, Brenham, with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lee Cemetery in Brenham.
Gladys was born October 17, 1930 and was raised in Prairie Hill. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. She attended school at Prairie Hill and graduated from Brenham High School. After high school, she attended Blinn College where she was an honor roll student and ran track, excelling in the 100-yard dash.
On July 30, 1950, Gladys married Charlie Rosenbaum, Jr. Gladys and Charlie met while playing church volleyball in Prairie Hill. Charlie and Gladys celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last week. Charlie and Gladys were members of Salem Lutheran Church, where Gladys taught Sunday School. Several years later, they became members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, where she was a member until her death. For many years, she enjoyed putting the poinsettias in the windows, altar, and in the entire sanctuary of the church during the Christmas season. Gladys was a member of the Altar Guild and Greeters for Worship. She was also part of Women of the ELCA and she was in charge of providing food for special occasions at the church.
Gladys loved her home, her family, helping at church, and flowers. She was a member of the Bluebonnet Garden Club and won yard of the month several times. She enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas, and loved looking at the Brahma calves on the family ranch. During her lifetime, she devoted lots of time helping and caring for elderly people.
Gladys leaves behind her husband, Charlie; one daughter, Charlyn Schoenvogel and her husband Walt; two grandchildren, which she loved very much, Sally Bradley and her husband Michael, and Trey Schoenvogel and his wife Ashlee; one great-grandchild, Ava Grace Schoenvogel; two sisters, Emma Jewel German of Temple and Ruby Doris Harris of Waco; sister-in-laws Marjorie Bogusch of Austin, Bobbie Fellers of Houston, Vernita Loesch of Bellaire, and Evelyn Thielemann of Brenham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with relatives, she leaves behind special friend Gennie Schulze and special caregiver Bernice Ray.
She was proceeded in death by a stillborn child; her parents, Emma Wood and Reinhardt Loesch; mother and father-in-law, Pearlie and Charlie Rosenbaum, Sr.; brothers Dr. John Fellers, Clarence Loesch, and Reinhardt Loesch, Jr.; sisters Ella Mae Wegner and Irma Ziesemer; aunts Minnie Hopmann and Esther Rodenbeck; and uncles Albert Hopmann, Charlie Hopmann, and John Hopmann.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill Betts, Darrell Blum, Paul Ehlert, John Hasskarl, Wade Seidel, and David Toone. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Donald Draehn, David Folschinsky, Dr. Kenneth Landgraf, John Schaer, Jr., David Schomburg, and Eddie Van Dyke, as well as the employees of Chappell Hill Construction, R&S Leasing, and Topper’s Liquor. Memorials may be made to the audio and visual ministry at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 W. Third Street, Brenham, Texas 77833, or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Brenham Memorial Chapel.
