Obituary
Frank B. Wilson, Jr., formerly of Burnet, TX, passed away on March 17, 2025 in Brenham at the age of 97.
Frank was born to Frank Sr. and Edith Wilson on July 9, 1927, in Brownsville, TX. He grew up in Raymondville and moved to Austin where he attended his last two years of high school at St. Edwards, graduating in May 1945. He reported for duty in the US Navy the next week at the age of 17. He served in the Pacific at the end of WWII. After being discharged, Frank attended Texas Tech University.
He met Edna Southern while working in Cuero. They were married on December 24, 1953. After living in West Texas, Colorado, and Wyoming, they settled in Victoria, and finally Austin, where they raised their three children. Frank started his accounting firm in Austin, in 1962, retiring in 1994.
Frank was a man of many talents. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a self-taught gunsmith, repairing, designing and building guns for many friends and clients across Texas and the US. In the 1960’s, he took up the sport of benchrest shooting, winning many tournaments across the US.
Frank was an outstanding golfer. After retiring, Frank and Edna built a house in Delaware Springs where they made many friends. Frank would usually be found on the golf course. He won many tournaments over the years and sank three hole-in-ones. On July 8, 2015, he scored an 87 (his age). The next day, July 9, he sank his last hole-in-one on his 88th birthday.
Frank and Edna enjoyed raising their children in the Westlake area. They attended every event and could be found at every Westlake football game. After moving to Burnet, he attended Burnet games. He loved the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys.
Frank was an avid reader, often reading two or three books a week. He exercised at the Burnet YMCA every morning at 6 A.M. He was a member of the Hill Country Bible Church.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and wife Edna. He is survived by his daughter Rhonda (Jeff), son Greg, and daughter Helen. He is also survived by his grandchildren Melissa (Jake) and Ryan, and great grandchildren Shelby, Presley, and Jordyn.
A private family service is planned for the future.
