Obituary
Evelyn Boehnemann Fuchs, 98 of Burton, passed away peacefully December 22, 2023 at Kruse Village.
Evelyn was born March 20, 1925 in Burton to parents Adolph and Ella (Hertel) Boehnemann. She was baptized May 17, 1925 and confirmed March 17, 1940 both at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, where she remained a lifelong member. Evelyn attended rural Burton school and then attended Burton High School, from where she graduated in the class of 1943. On June 22, 1947, Evelyn married John Will Fuchs at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. They started their life together in LaGrange, and eventually would come back home and settle on the same piece of land she lived her life out on.
Evelyn was a devoted homemaker and supported her husband on their dairy farm and eventual commercial cattle operation. She planted and tended a garden until her health no longer allowed, raising vegetables and canning them to feed her family. She entered many of her canned goods in the Washington County Fair, winning Grand Champion and numerous awards. Evelyn had a true love for feeding her family and was an outstanding cook, always making the special dishes for her grandchildren that they enjoyed most. Her work was not only in the kitchen. She would also help John Will during harvest times of hay and corn, doing whatever was needed to get the job done the right way. Evelyn also designed and baked beautiful and delicious wedding cakes. She enjoyed supporting her sons and grandchildren’s 4H and FFA projects, and sport activities. In her little spare time, she would set up her quilting square in the dining room and put together true works of love and art to either gift or enjoy. She also enjoyed playing dominoes with family and friends. Evelyn and John Will traveled to Germany three times, meeting family and making lifelong friends. Until recently, she would still sit down and talk to her dear friends in Germany, as she was fluent in German. They hosted their friends from Germany several times. In the last years of John Will’s life, Evelyn took care of him, making sure he could stay at home as long as possible. She truly found her passion in life in taking care of her family and friends.
She was a member of the Greenvine Church Choir, volunteered for Vacation Bible School, member of the Ladies Circle, Salad Suppers, and prepared meals for funerals all through Greenvine Lutheran Church. She and John Will sang with the Winedale German Singers. She was a Charter Lifetime Member of Texas Extension Education Association, and Burton American Legion Auxiliary. In 1967, she received the Outstanding Extension Homemaker Lifetime Award and the Texas Conservation Homemaker Award. In 2016, Evelyn received the District and State Texas Treasure Award from the Texas EEA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years John Will Fuchs; parents, Adolph and Ella (Hertel) Boehnemann; parents-in-law, John C. and Elsie (Stork) Fuchs; brother Delphine Boehnemann, sister and brother-in-law Gladys and Delton Koerth; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ora Nell and Edward Muehlbrad, Lester and Virginia Fuchs, Glenwood Schwartz, LeeRoy Fuchs (who died as a child).
