Gone From My Sight
by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...

Dear Lou and Family,

We didn't really know EM, only saw him twice. But, our hearts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Your heart is deeply grieved and hurting, and we pray that with the comfort and strength of our Precious Lord you will feel His healing power and love. Then you will only remember the good and fun times. Remember the old hymn "When your heart is aching turn to Jesus, He's the only friend you'll ever need". He is there for you, wrapping his arms of love around you and giving you comfort at this very minute, receive it and accept His peace.

With our deepest sympathy and love,
Betty and Don

Dear Friends:

I have been reading all of the wonderful messages regarding E.M.

Some of them make me cry but it's good crying because I know you all truly loved him, honored and respected him. He loved you, too. Each of you were dear to him.

Needless to say, this has been a very difficult time for me and my family, the consolation is knowing E.M. is with our Lord.

Thank you, Lou Rogers
