Obituary

Ella (Berger) Buerger, 99, of Brenham, died August 28, 2009 in Brenham Rest Home.

Ella was born April 7, 1910 in the Sandy Hill Community of Washington County, Texas, the daughter of Fritz and Bertha Meyer Berger. She was baptized on May 22, 1910 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill by Pastor Funning and confirmed in the same church on April 15, 1925 by Pastor George Czerkus. She attended Sandy Hill Public School. On October 9, 1930 she married Adolf Buerger at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker and a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and making quilts for the family and Lutheran World Relief.

She is preceded in death by her parents Fritz and Bertha Meyer Berger, husband Adolf Buerger who died January 13, 1978, brothers Willie and Henry Berger, sisters and brothers-in-law Emma and Otto Wegner, Lydia Berger, Alma and Ben Steinfeld, sister-in-law Hennie Buerger, sons-in-law Amos Randermann and Fred Louis Heckmann, grandson Mark Wayne Wehmeyer.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Hortense and George Rhodes, Gerdine and Wilfred Blome, Marjorie Heckman, Dorothy and Calvin Wehmeyer all of Brenham; grandchildren Kathy and Mark Lehmann, Debbie and Kim Mueller; step-grandchildren Marla and Jeff Maitland, Dawn and Curtis Konieczny; great-grandchildren Krystal and Craig Glaeser, Kaylyn Lehmann and fiancé Brandon Hannath, Bradley Mueller and Amanda Mueller; step-great grandchildren Brianne Maitland, Arabella Maitland and Brook Konieczny all of Brenham; sister-in-law Emma Berger of California and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff of Brenham Rest Home.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 pm, Sunday, August 30, 2009 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 31 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mark Lehmann, Kim Mueller, Jeff Maitland, Curtis Konieczny, Elwood Kelm and Darrell Reimer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
