I was a classmate of Donald in Brenham, Texas in the late 50's. I learned from one of his cousins that he lived in Newbough and I always had hopes of trying to see him when visiting my son in nearby Tuxedo Park. I remember him as a very talented artist and a quiet person with a good sense of humor. I regret that I didn't take the opportunity to know him as an adult.

Dear Joan and family,
I enjoyed talking to you, Joan, after such a long time, but very sad to learn of Donald's death. Tweedy and I have such good memories of playing together with you and Donald for many years of being neighbors. Paula and I drive by our houses often just to see the neighborhood and the many changes that are happening. Im glad I had the opportunity to talk to Donald by phone when Paula and I were in New York City about a year ago. I called him up and said who I was and said I was in Central Park. He immediately responded, "Oh you poor soul". He was always quick witted and a joy to talk with. I'm fortunate to have a portrait done by Donald when I was at UT at the same time as he was. I have cherished it all these years. He was very talented in many areas and he will be missed by many. We are so sorry for your loss, Joan, and I hope we get to see you again one day.

we will definitely miss and treasure all of the times we had visiting with Don when he came home to visit Johanna and Lawerence. as long time neighbors we had many occasions to listen and admire the stories that Don had of his experiences in New York. the Herrin family has always been a treasure that we had an opportunity to enjoy and our condolences to the family of Don. May God bless and be with you in your time of loss. Bettie and Charles

I was Donald's next door neighbor and spent a lot of time over at his house while growing up in Brenham, Tx. He was 5 years older than me, but we enjoyed talking, watching movies and playing in the yard. He was a good friend and we shared many good times. I will miss him.
