Obituary
David Januszewski passed away from this life on July 3, 2024 at his home in Brenham, TX. He was born on November 19, 1963 in St. Jude Hospital in Brenham. He was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church by Msgr. Charles Weisnerowski and confirmed in the same church by Bishop Vincent Harris of the Austin Diocese.
He attended Brenham schools and graduated from Blinn Jr College. David spent the 1990's working as a sound and lighting engineer with his good friends in the local band Rik-O-Shay. Those were some of the best years of his life.
In 1992, David also began working alongside his father in the family business, Ski Tax Co. He had a sharp mind, quick wit and was brilliant with numbers. He spent many successful years as a tax associate until he was forced to step back in 2006 due to complications with type 2 diabetes.
In the years following, his diabetes would take a debilitating toll on David's life but he remained a force to be reckoned with. Always smiling, funny and positive despite the many health issues that would eventually take him from this world. He lived life on his terms.
His joys, later in life, were watching sports. All sports, college and professional. He never missed a Cowboys, Texans, Longhorns or Astros game. And thanks to Gina, hockey quickly became another favorite sport to watch. His nieces, Megan and Rachel, were also a source of happiness for David. He shared in the joys of their accomplishments and followed their journeys closely, both in their education and their careers. He was a very proud uncle and he loved them dearly.
In 2019, David began helping Gina and James take care of some of their father's needs. David made sure his dad always had groceries and drove him to his out of town medical appointments until recently, when he started having difficulty getting around himself. Even on his worst days, he was always willing to help his dad with whatever he needed.
The last few months proved difficult for David. With his health failing him, even the simplest tasks required the assistance of his devoted sister and brother-in-law. And even though asking for help was difficult for David, he always appreciated their unconditional love and support.
David was a gentle giant, a kind soul who cared more for others than he did himself.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Shafer, infant sister, Theresa Januszewski and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary Januszewski.
David is survived by his father, Johnnie Januszewski; his caretakers sister Gina and brother-in-law, James Draehn of Brenham; sister Judi (Ron) McKenzie of Olathe, Kansas; brother James Januszewski of Houston; nieces and nephews, Megan, Rachel, Tyson, Lauren, Grayson and Chase; and five great nieces and nephews; special neighbors and loyal, compassionate friends, Ronnie and Melissa Zientek.
Pallbearers are James Januszewski, James Draehn, Ronnie Zientek, Chris Cangelosi, Mark Januszewski, Joe Januszewski, Timmy Bosse and Robert Zientek.
Honorary pallbearers are his beloved nieces, Megan and Rachel Draehn.
