Obituary

Ben “Butch” Meyer, age 82, of Brenham, Texas a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather waltzed his way into Heaven with the good Lord on December 23, 2023.

Ben was born June 1, 1941, to Ben & Elsie Meyer in the Latium Community. Ben was baptized on July 20, 1941, and confirmed on April 3, 1955, at the Greenville Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He grew up on the farm picking cotton and helping his family. He attended and graduated from Brenham High School in 1959.

As a young man, Ben joined the United States Army honorably serving his country for four years as a Combat Construction Specialist serving both active duty and in the reserves. He did his basic training at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He was later stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana.

Ben met his forever love of 63 years, Delores Jane Eichler and they wed on August 14, 1960. They welcomed their first daughter, Laurie, on July 10, 1962, then their second daughter, Linda, on July 2, 1964, and finally their youngest and only son, Bryan, on October 18, 1967. Ben owned Meyer and Kugel Packing Plant. After he sold the packing plant, he ran cattle on his ranch until his passing.

Ben was an outdoorsman and a one-of-a-kind type of cowboy. He was a skilled man, working in various environments being a co-owner in a packing plant to welding in the field building structures and fence lines. Ben's passion was being a cowboy. Ben was a horseman and raised cattle throughout his life passing his passion and skill on through his family. There wasn’t a day, even before his passing, where he didn’t roam the pastures on his gator with his beloved wife checking cattle.

As the years passed, they watched their children get married and provide ten grandchildren. As time does, those grandchildren found their matches and provided eight great grandchildren and two more on the way this coming year. He was greatly blessed by the Lord and will be greatly missed by his legacy, his family.
Ben’s pastimes were being with family, dancing, playing cards, spouting off jokes, running his hound dogs, hunting, and fishing which has also been passed on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Ben & Elsie Meyer, parents-in-law, Elmo & Bernice Eichler, sister & brother-in-law, Ora Dean & Otto Duesterhoft, sister & brother-in-law, Janell “Tiny” & Dennie Marek, and brother-in-law, Billy Baichtal.
