I haven't seen Ann in over 30 years and stumbled into the news of her death online. To me as a child, Ann was an icon of Texas verve. I didn't understand how she could be flattered when I told her I though she looked like Julie Andrews. In her picture posted here, it seems obvious to me. I think warmly on the hospitality the Sylers showed to a city boy on visits to Washington County. My condolences go to Matt, Bentley, Jeb, Melanie and Darla as well as thoughts to Chano, Maria, Maggie, Mrs B and all who centered around the table those days.

I am so sorry for the delay in sending my condolences as I was just made aware. I wanted to say that your mother was so special. My memories of slumber parties and riding horses on your ranch are like yesterday. My prayers are with all of you.

May you find comfort and peace and 'the power beyond what is normal' to carry on.
“He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. And the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken [it].” (Isa 25:8)

Jeb,
You, Tim, and Melanie are very special to me. I am sorry that I cannot be there with you to personally share this sorrow. No matter how sick, we are never ready for a loved one to leave. She is really in a better place. We will always be thankful to your mother for giving us you to share our lives with. We love you.
