Obituary

Alton (Al) Leon Sossaman was born on April 2, 1943 in Brownfield, Texas. Al lived his life with integrity and love for his wife and family. On November 8, 2012, Al passed from this earth to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne; daughter, Shelly Sossaman McWhorter and husband Shane of Huntsville, Texas; son, Heath Brandon Sossaman and wife Laura of Kenney, Texas; Al was “Papa” to his four granddaughters, Paxton, Audrey, Paige, and Ella and his two step-grandsons, Joseph and Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Tipton and husband Joe of Denver City, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Evelyn McAdoo and Wayne and Dodie McAdoo of Ft. Worth, Texas; nephews, Don McAdoo, Rick McAdoo, Bryan Sossaman, and Troy McAdoo; niece, Tonya Purdom; and special friends, The Gary Mariott family.

Al was loved by many and cherished by his family. Al was a cowboy at heart. He loved horses, John Wayne and everything that defines a real cowboy: love for God, deep devotion for family, honor, integrity and respect for his fellow man. Al began working at the age of 8 and retired as an Operations Superintendent with Exxon Co. USA after 32 ½ years of service. He was highly respected by those who supervised him as well as those he supervised.

He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Leon and Laura Lucy Sossaman.

A memorial service for Al will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in First Baptist Church, 304 N. Market, Brenham, Texas.
